Participant Showcase

Some of the best stories at the TCS Sydney Marathon never make the leaderboard. Our participant showcase brings together the who's who of the event across three unmissable segments, and you will want a front row seat for everyone.

We begin with the Blue Line Legends, the runners who have toed the line at every single edition since the very beginning. They are the heart and soul of the event, the ones who have watched it grow into Australia's largest marathon, and this year a special few are preparing for their twenty-fifth.

From there we turn to the fundraisers, the everyday heroes running for causes close to their hearts, with stories guaranteed to put a lump in your throat and a spring in your step.

To finish, meet the record breakers chasing Guinness World Records on race day. Take a sneaky peek at the costumes, soak up the colour, and hear what possesses someone to run forty-two kilometres dressed as, well, you will have to come down and find out. Three segments, one morning, and a whole lot of heart.

Cooee is a musical collaboration between Gunai multidisciplinary artist Kirli Saunders (OAM) and musician/illustrator Mark Chester Harding. Kirli and Mark met performing Like a Version with Jack River for triple j’s Like a Version in late 2023.

That same week, Kirli had released her poetry collection, Returning (Magabala), a book that would linger with Mark and ultimately form the lyrical foundation of their early songwriting sessions. A handful of Kirli’s poems were soon set to Mark’s pre-existing musical sketches, marking the start of a dynamic creative partnership.

Kirli, a proud Gunai woman and recipient of the Order of Australia Medal for her contributions to the arts, brings a literary sensibility to the project. Her writing, spanning eight books, with works like Kindred (Magabala), Returning, and Eclipse (Allen & Unwin, 2025), explores connections to Country, culture, love, and loss.

Mark is a producer and songwriter known for his collaborations with artists such as Jack River, Jem Cassar-Daley, Sons of the East, and Little May. His solo releases have collectively garnered over six million streams.

REALM

REALM is an immersive experience exploring the connection between music and the mind and body.

Created by Eric J Dubowsky, the ARIA and Grammy Award-winning producer behind mixes for Flume, FKA twigs and Tame Impala, REALM aims to engineer specific cognitive and physiological responses through sound, including vivid mental imagery, dopamine spikes and chills.

"REALM is about understanding what sound is really doing to the brain. We know music can make you feel things. But what if we could design that experience with intention and improved well-being outcomes for the listener?" - Eric J Dubowsky

Developed in collaboration with ambient artist Matt Curtin, creative director Tim Baggott, and cognitive neuroscientist Dr Steffen A. Herff at The University of Sydney, the project is backed by lab testing, with compositions tested on international participants through the Sydney Music, Mind & Body Lab at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

REALM is an evolving project that invites audience members to share their personal experience post-event to inform its ongoing development.
